I never pictured myself as a boy’s mom. Growing up the oldest of 5 girls, I always imagined having daughters. Our second child was born a wonderful boy and being the mom of a boy is a very different experience. For the last 5 years, I have loved him dearly and I have many wishes for him as he grows to be a man:
1- Be Gentle
“My son… in our world of fear and aggressiveness, be the gentle one. Love those around you, be the gentle soul who listens and cares to understand others.”
2- Have Passion
“My son… love your chosen one deeply and passionately. Be present and never underestimate the small attentions, for they will pay back and bring you so much happiness.”
3- Celebrate Differences
“My son… celebrate differences as they will push you to see the world through a different lens and allow you to grow kind and generous.” open-minded
4- Love Your Family
“My son… Take care of your family and put their needs in front of yours, for they will be, in sickness and poorness, the only thing you have left.
5- Act Kindly
“My son… our world is growing sad and needs kind people. Offer acts of kindness and pay it forward, for a kind heart is respected and forever rich.”
6- Always Be A Gentleman
“My son… while I want your sisters to feel equal to their male partners, I wish for you to always be a gentleman. No matter the feedback, hold the door and take her coat.”
7- Smile Abundantly
“My son… let your smile illuminate rooms. It creates presence and speaks the unspoken words. Smile abundantly!”
8- Love Yourself
“My son… be yourself and love who you are. Those are the only things no one can ever take away from you. I wish for you to stand out for the person you are. Celebrate your individuality and love yourself… deeply!”
9- Be Their Role Model
“My son… make decisions you can be proud of. In times of doubt, ask yourself what will make you the better person, for there are little eyes watching you.”
10- See The World
“My son… travel, explore, discover, walk off-the beaten paths to open your horizons, your mind, and new opportunities. See the world, my son.”
